Nieuw begin

New start

My first entry this year... a lot has happened. I have also taken the time to think about what it is I want with my blog. I want to show my creative adventures here, share what's keeping me busy, what inspires me, give impressions of beauty in the little things of life I notice.

This week I suddenly got an important insight during a clear moment and I guess this is true for many women: I slowly start to realise that I have to relax more, take moments to rest more often because my thoughts are always busy, filled with things I still have to do, have not yet done etc. Frustrating, because I never want to take time to rest because there's so much to do. But I often forget that taking these moments to rest ensures that afterwards I can do the things I have to do better and with more focus. I find it very hard to give myself these moments of rest, but I now realise that I'm not giving it to myself but that it's a must in order to be able to keep going...

Genieten van de kleine dingen... To enjoy the little things...

Just a few close ups of little things we enjoy so much at the moment in our garden. Flowers, colours, forms, textures, our dear cats... I love to take photos and close ups like these from time to time. It reminds me of our garden full of inspiration.

Enjoy it, as I have too.

Sheer-boekje van Maya Road Sheer book from Maya Road

Some time ago I stamped and decorated a sheer book from Maya Road as an example for the store where I work (Hobbycompleet de Duif in Leeuwarden).

I used scrap paper from We R Memory Keepers (Hoopla collection), Penny black stamps Modesty and Corner Piece, Heidi Swapp clear stamp "love", Stazon ink Cotton White (which stamps very beautiful on this material I think!), Prima flowers, Making Memories rub-ons and gel pens.

I was happily surprised with the result and I almost didn't want to leave the book behind in the store LOL!

This week I'm reorganising my art room. I really wanted to create something, but the table was loaded with all sorts of stuff, paper, inks, stamps, flowers and so on. So I first HAD to organize and suddenly I'm finding myself surrounded by all my pieces of lace and ribbons, and the boxes I kept them in were now really getting overloaded. So I'm winding all my laces and ribbons around cardboard pieces, and these pieces are now in my new plastic see-through storage boxes. I love it, I now get to see what's in them right away and it looks so nice!!! Here you see a before and after pictures...

Heerlijk stempeldagje bij Grietje A stamping day at Grietje's house

Today another great stamping day at Grietje's house, what a wonderful workshop space she has now; it's like heaven playing there!

It has been a while, but this week I have played around in my art journal again.

The first 2 pages are some sort of preparation for a challenge I'm in for the MixedMediaDivas yahoo group. I'm still working on it, but this is a little sneak peak.

On the other 2 pages I had fun with doodling and when Gosse was watching football on tv next to me, I tried to draw his portrait... I don't think it's a great result, but it was just fun and I plan on doing this more often!

Now back to today. We even got to be productive, in between all the talking! We made backgrounds with our favorite technique, smearing Adirondack dye inkpads on the craft sheet, misting with water and picking it up...

The first card was made using a technique from Bennie Berlin and Hermine Koster has added her own twist to this technique.

Then we made cards from the backgrounds and even some quick and simple cards too with Hero Arts and Inque Boutique stamps. I can't say anything other than that we had a wonderful day with lots of laughter and sun and we also made beautiful cards.

Wat wil een stempelgekke meid nog meer???

What else does a stamping girl want???

Stempeldagjes en papier-stof achtergrondjes maken Stamping days and making fabric paper

Every month my stamping friends Grietje, Mariska, Hilde and I meet at each others houses for inspiring stamping days and we switch being the hostess each month. In february we met with Mariska and she came up with a cute project for us: altering a cube. This is what I made of it:

This month I was the hostess and because I'm a real technique junkie, I decided to make great backgrounds with some techniques I read about in the magazine ClothPaperScissors and in Tracy Bautista's book "Collage Unleashed".

The first two photos were the examples I made for our get together, the third photo is what I made this stamping day. We used a plastic bag cut open to work on. We coated the plastic bag with gel medium (I used glossy) and then we put a piece of pattern paper over this and brushed more gel medium on the pattern paper (I'm not sure what this is called in English, but it is the very thin and cheap paper that is used to trace clothing patterns on, this is nice thin so you get kind of a transparant result). So, when the pattern paper is glued to the plastic bag, you can cut or tear pieces of napkins (the top layer of the napkin only) or wrapping paper and glue these on with gel medium and go ahead and cover these pieces with gel medium too. You don't have to cover the whole area, leave some open spaces too if you want. Now you can load your brush with paint and paint over it, use more colours if you like, you can also glaze the whole thing to bring it all together. For this you can mix the paint with some gel medium this makes the paint more transparant. If you want you can glue some more paper or pieces of napkin, and if you go over this with your brush again you'll notice that you'll transfer some paint over the paper too; that's okay, I really like this effect. When you're as impatient as we were, you can use your heattool to speed up the drying process but be carefull and use some distance because of the plastic bag, otherwise it will melt! When it is fairly dry (this will go faster than you might think) you can overstamp the whole piece using rubberstamps and paint or ink that's waterproof, but we just used paint. You can also use Colorwashes, doodle with gel pens, stickles, liquid pearls, 3d paint such as Tulip or Pebeo etc. Once the whole piece is completely dry, you can carefully peel it off of the plastic bag. You now have a piece of fabric paper which you can also carefully sew on by hand or by sewing machine.

These first two photos were my examples of the second technique and the third photo is the result of our get together. For this we used yellow cheap scrap cardstock and we scraped over this with an old creditcard and several colours of paint. Then we overstamped with rubber and foam stamps with paint. Then we played some more with doodles, gel pens, stickles, liquid pearls, 3d paint such as Tulip and Pebeo. For instance, I slapped a Heidi Swapp mask (a big one with flowers) on my paper, sprayed with brown Colorwash over this, removed the mask and when dry I followed the lines with Pebeo 3d paint (you see this on the third photo on the left side of the paper).

Here we are, all four of us with the end results of our latest get together last week:

Gelukkig Nieuwjaar! Happy New Year!

I wish everybody a wonderful and creative 2008 with this newyear card we sent to our family and friends. Of course another cooperation from Gosse and me, the picture is an oil painting of a winter landscape from Gosse combined with stamp work from me :-))))

A new year, so again new good resolutions of course! My very first resolution: to keep my blog more updated because I've had not updated it with much news the last couple of months. Fortunately I will be getting some more space and time now which I will use to update my blog more... I haven't been able to stamp and do other techniques much lately and I really miss it! I am now in the middle of reorganising my craft room because it seems like a bomb exploded; I have only brought more stuff in but didn't do anything with it, not even found homes for them yet. So that's what comes first and that's okay, because then I will know what stuff I have in there (an awful lot, I can tell you guys...)

I have done some things, here are some stamped cards I made in the last couple of months:

At the moment I'm doing a lot of mini canvasses. This is one of them, I used paint, stamps, a printed photo etc.:

This is a notebook, I first glued squares of scrap paper on and then I painted them over and stamped etc.:
