Stempeldagjes en papier-stof achtergrondjes maken Stamping days and making fabric paper

Elke maand komen mijn stempelmaatjes Grietje, Mariska, Hilde en ik bij elkaar voor een gezellig stempeldagje, en elke maand wisselen we de gastvrouwrol. In februari waren we bij Mariska en zij had een leuk project voor ons bedacht: een kubus maken. Dit zijn mijn resultaten van toen:

Deze maand was ik gastvrouw en omdat ik een echte techniek-junkie ben, had ik gekozen om achtergrondjes te maken met technieken waar ik over had gelezen in het tijdschrift ClothPaperScissors en in het boek van Traci Bautista "Collage Unleashed".

This month I was the hostess and because I'm a real technique junkie, I decided to make great backgrounds with some techniques I read about in the magazine ClothPaperScissors and in Tracy Bautista's book "Collage Unleashed".

De eerste twee foto's waren mijn voorbeelden voor de eerste techniek, de derde foto heb ik op dit stempeldagje gemaakt. Hiervoor hebben we een opengeknipte plastic tas op tafel gelegd als ondergrond. Hierop een dun laagje gel medium gesmeerd (ik heb glossy gebruikt). Hieroverheen een stuk patroonpapier gelegd (dat is lekker goedkoop en heel mooi dun waardoor het eindresultaat heel mooi transparant wordt) en hieroverheen weer een dun laagje gel medium aangebracht. Je plakt als het ware het patroonpapier op de plastic zak. Daarna hebben we stukjes servet (alleen de bovenste laag) en stukjes kadopapier gescheurd en dit weer opgeplakt met de gel medium, en de gel medium gebruik je ook over het papier heen. Je kunt ook stukjes wit laten. Dan ga je met acrylverf eroverheen, dit kan ook over de plaatjes heen als een soort glaze, hiermee kun je alles een beetje bij elkaar trekken. Gebruik gerust meerdere kleuren, eventueel een beetje verdund met gel medium zodat je een tranparantere kleur krijgt. Als je wilt kun je nog een stukje servet of kadopapier opplakken en als je dan met de gel medium eroverheen gaat dan neem je (bij mij in ieder geval in eerste instantie ongewild) toch een beetje verf mee van eronder, maar dat geeft juist een heel mooi effect heb ik gemerkt. Ben je net zo ongeduldig als wij waren: even de heattool erop (niet te dichtbij vanwege de plastic tas, anders smelt deze!) en als 't redelijk droog is (dit gaat sneller dan je denkt) kun je met verf of evt. watervaste inkt maar wij hebben dus verf gebruikt, hieroverheen en naar hartelust sprayen met Colorwashes, stempelen, doodlen met gelpennen, stickles, liquid pearls, Tulip paint of 3dverf van Pebeo e.d. Als 't helemaal droog is kun je 't papier voorzichtig van de plastic tas aftrekken. Wat je nu hebt wordt ook wel stof-papier genoemd want hier kun je zelfs (voorzichtig) op naaien met de hand of met de naaimachine.

The first two photos were the examples I made for our get together, the third photo is what I made this stamping day. We used a plastic bag cut open to work on. We coated the plastic bag with gel medium (I used glossy) and then we put a piece of pattern paper over this and brushed more gel medium on the pattern paper (I'm not sure what this is called in English, but it is the very thin and cheap paper that is used to trace clothing patterns on, this is nice thin so you get kind of a transparant result). So, when the pattern paper is glued to the plastic bag, you can cut or tear pieces of napkins (the top layer of the napkin only) or wrapping paper and glue these on with gel medium and go ahead and cover these pieces with gel medium too. You don't have to cover the whole area, leave some open spaces too if you want. Now you can load your brush with paint and paint over it, use more colours if you like, you can also glaze the whole thing to bring it all together. For this you can mix the paint with some gel medium this makes the paint more transparant. If you want you can glue some more paper or pieces of napkin, and if you go over this with your brush again you'll notice that you'll transfer some paint over the paper too; that's okay, I really like this effect.When you're as impatient as we were, you can use your heattool to speed up the drying process but be carefull and use some distance because of the plastic bag, otherwise it will melt! When it is fairly dry (this will go faster than you might think) you can overstamp the whole piece using rubberstamps and paint or ink that's waterproof, but we just used paint. You can also use Colorwashes, doodle with gel pens, stickles, liquid pearls, 3d paint such as Tulip or Pebeo etc. Once the whole piece is completely dry, you can carefully peel it off of the plastic bag. You now have a piece of fabric paper which you can also carefully sew on by hand or by sewing machine.

Deze eerste twee foto's waren mijn voorbeelden voor de tweede techniek en de derde foto heb ik deze stempeldag gemaakt. Hiervoor hebben we goedkoop felgeel scrap cardstock genomen, hieroverheen met een oude creditcard acrylverf overheen geschraapt in meerdere kleuren. Hieroverheen gestempeld met acrylverf en ook weer versierd met doodles, gelpennen en tulip of Pebeo 3d verf en stickles of liquid pearls. Ik heb b.v. een Heidi Swapp mask (een grote met bloemen) erop gelegd en hieroverheen met bruine Colorwash gespoten, daarna de mask erafgehaald en je hebt een heel mooi effect. Dit heb ik nog eens benadrukt door met de Pebeo verf de randjes na te tekenen (dit zie je op de derde foto aan de linkerkant van het papier).

These first two photos were my examples of the second technique and the third photo is the result of our get together. For this we used yellow cheap scrap cardstock and we scraped over this with an old creditcard and several colours of paint. Then we overstamped with rubber and foam stamps with paint. Then we played some more with doodles, gel pens, stickles, liquid pearls, 3d paint such as Tulip and Pebeo. For instance, I slapped a Heidi Swapp mask (a big one with flowers) on my paper, sprayed with brown Colorwash over this, removed the mask and when dry I followed the lines with Pebeo 3d paint (you see this on the third photo on the left side of the paper).

Experimenten met Perfect Pearls - Experiments with Perfect Pearls

Zondag was ik samen met mijn beste vriendin Femke aan het werk in ons atelier in Wijk bij Duurstede (daar ben ik elke maand een paar dagen) en ik ben aan het experimenteren geweest met Perfect Pearls.

Sunday I was with my best friend Femke working in our studio in Wijk bij Duurstede (where I'm at each month for a few days) and I have been experimenting with Perfect Pearls.

Zoals je kunt zien heb ik in een bakje wat Perfect Pearls Raspberry Sparkle (lekker roze) gemengd met zwarte embossingpoeder. Een bloemetje met transparante embossing inkt op een tag gestempeld en met dit mengseltje bestrooid en verhit. Je ziet op de foto dat de roze poeder ook een beetje op de rest van de tag komt, maar in het zwart zie je het niet zo. Geen goeie combi dus :-(

As you can see, I mixed up some Perfect Pearls Raspberry Sparkle (nice pink) with black embossing powder. Stamped a flower with clear embossing ink on a tag and covered this with the mix and heated it. You can see on the picture that the pink powder also colours the rest of the tag a little bit, but you can't really see it through the black embossing powder. Not a very good combination I'm afraid :-(

Dan maar een andere combinatie proberen: witte embossingpoeder met Perfect Pearls Forever Violet. Met clear embossing inkt gestempeld. Je ziet de mooie lila/paarse glans wel een beetje links op het geëmbossed plaatje.

I tried another combination: white embossing powder with the Perfect Pearls Forever Violet. You can see the nice lilac/purple shine on the left side of the embossed image.

Nu met witte embossingpoeder en weer de roze Perfect Pearls gemengd en uitgeprobeerd op roze kaartkarton.

Then I mixed white embossing powder and the pink Perfect Pearls to try on pink cardstock.

Op de eerste foto heb ik gestempeld met de clear embossing inkt, op de tweede foto heb ik gestempeld met de zwarte embossing inkt omdat ik wilde weten of de PP's dan mooier uit zouden komen. Niet dus, ik vind de eerste mooier, hoewel ik had verwacht dat het rozer zou worden maar je ziet slechts als je 't papier heen en weer beweegt een rozige glans.

For the first picture I stamped with clear embossing ink, for the second picture I stamped with black embossing ink because I wanted to know if the Perfect Pearls would come out better. Not so, I think the one with the clear embossing ink is better, although I expected it to be more pink but you only see a slight pink shine when you move the paper up and down.

Hier heb ik een stempel met Perfect Medium op zwart papier gestempeld en hieroverheen de roze Perfect Pearls met een droog kwastje overheen gebrushed. Mooi effect, hoewel 't op de foto wat donker is. In 't echt glinstert het roze heel mooi. Ik denk dat veel Perfect Pearls op deze manier heel mooi zijn, vooral op donker papier. Bij deze techniek moet je de Perfect Pearls wel nog even "sealen" met een fijne nevel water uit een spuitflesje, anders kun je de PP's eraf vegen.

Here I stamped with Perfect Medium on black cardstock and brushed the pink PPs with a dry brush over it. Beautiful effect, although the picture is very dark. In reality the pink sparkles very nice. I think that a lot of colours of the PPs are beautiful this way, especially on dark paper. With this technique you have to seal the Perfect Pearls with a fine mist of water, otherwise you could wipe them off.

Als laatste heb ik geverfd met de Perfect Pearls. Ik heb eerst met Stazon Jet Black een paisley twee keer afgedrukt (het is belangrijk dat je watervaste inkt gebruikt!)

Finally I painted with the Perfect Pearls. I first stamped a paisley twice with Stazon Jet Black (it is important that you use an archival ink that doesn't fade or smear when applying a wet brush over it).

Toen met een penseeltje 1 druppeltje water in het dekseltje van de Perfect Pearls gedaan en daar een heel klein beetje PP's mee gemengd. Je hebt maar een klein beetje nodig, daar kun je al heel wat mee inkleuren. Ik heb 3 kleuren gebruikt: de Raspberry Sparkle, de Forever Violet en de Turquoise.

Then with a brush I picked up a drop of water and mixed this with a little bit of the Perfect Pearls in the lid. You only need very little of the PPs, you can colour in a lot with it. I used 3 colours: the Raspberry Sparkle, the Forever Violet and the Turquoise.

Er zijn natuurlijk nog veel meer mogelijkheden met de Perfect Pearls. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld ook je eigengemaakte verf maken door ze te mengen met Diamond Glaze, waterverf of acrylverf. Of je kunt UTEE eerst mengen met Perfect Pearls en dan dit mengsel gebruiken om te embossen of in je melting pot te gebruiken (let op: niet de PP's zo als poeder los in je melting pot bij de UTEE gooien, maar eerst apart in een bakje de UTEE en PP's goed mengen met elkaar en dat mengsel dan in de melting pot gooien. Anders kan de poeder ontvlammen!). Perfect Pearls kun je ook perfect gebruiken om b.v. embellishments van klei mee in te wrijven en dan af te bakken.

Verder kun je dit alles ook doen met Pearl-Ex poeder, behalve dan dat je Pearl-Ex niet alleen met water kunt gebruiken om mee te verven omdat er geen "binder" in zit, dan hecht 't niet aan je papier. Je kunt de Pearl-Ex wel mengen met arabische gom, dan kan 't wel. Veel succes en plezier met experimenteren, ik ben benieuwd wat anderen met deze leuke poedertjes maken!

Off course there are much more things you can do with the Perfect Pearls. For instance you can make your own custommade paint by mixing them with Diamond Glaze, water paint or acrylic paint. Or you can mix them with UTEE and use this mix to heat-emboss or use it in your melting pot. Be aware though: don't throw the loose powder of the Perfect Pearls in your melting pot filled with UTEE, but mix the UTEE and the PPs separately in a jar first and then use this mix in your melting pot. Otherwise the PPs powder could inflame! You can also use Perfect Pearls to rub on your selfmade clay embellishments and then bake them.

You can also apply these techniques with Pearl-Ex powder, except that the Pearl-Ex can't be used just with water to paint with because there is no binder in it, so it won't stick to your paper. Instead of water, you can mix the Pearl-Ex with arabic gum, with this you can paint. Good luck and have fun with experimenting, I'm curious to see what others do with these fun powders!

Een achtergrondje maken met een brayer - Making a background with a brayer

Benodigdheden: (sorry voor de matige kwaliteit van de foto's...)
- wit kaartpapier
- Adirondack dye inkt Butterscotch, Rust, Lettuce en Stream
- brayer of verfroller
- elastiekjes, touw, fruitnetje
- stempels

Supplies needed: (forgive me for the poor quality of the photos...)
- white cardstock
- Adirondack dye ink Butterscotch, Rust, Lettuce and Stream
- brayer
- rubber bands, some type of string or twine, fruit netting

STAP 1 - STEP 1
Wikkel het netje om de brayer heen en maak dit aan de uiteinden vast met een elastiekje.

Beinkt je brayer nu met een kleur inkt, bijvoorbeeld de Stream. Ik heb geprobeerd alleen het netje in het midden te beinkten. Rol je brayer dan een paar keer over het papier. Doe dit ook met de andere kleuren als je wilt, probeer ook eens van richting te veranderen tijdens het rollen (verticaal versus horizontaal versus diagonaal). Speel ermee, maar probeer ervoor te zorgen dat 't niet te vol of te donker wordt; het is tenslotte een achtergrondje.

Wind the netting around the brayer and hold this in place with 2 rubber bands at the sides.

Now ink your prepared brayer with one colour of ink, for instance the Stream. I tried to only ink the middle of the brayer, the part with just the netting. Roll your brayer a few times over the paper. Do this also with the other colours if you want, try to change the direction in which you roll (vertical versus horizontal versus diagonal). Play with it, but try to keep it from getting too dense or too dark; after all it's a background.

Haal de elastiekjes en het netje van de brayer af. Veeg de brayer een beetje af met een keukenpapiertje. Beinkt de brayer licht met Butterscotch en brayer over het papier, laat sommige delen open.

Remove the rubber bands and the netting from the brayer. Wipe the brayer a little bit off. Ink the brayer lightly with Butterscotch and brayer over the cardstock, leaving some spots blank.

Wikkel wat touw om de brayer heen en zorg dat 't een beetje vast zit. Beinkt de rechterkant van de brayer met Stream en de linkerkant met Lettuce en rol dit een paar keer over het papier. Beinkt het nog eens met Rust en brayer in een andere richting tot je tevreden bent met het resultaat.

Wind some string or twine around your brayer and tighten this a little bit. Ink the right side of the brayer with Stream and the left side with Lettuce, roll the brayer a few times on the cardstock. Ink your brayer again with Rust this time and brayer in another direction until you are satisfied with the results.

Neem een geschikte (achtergrond) stempel en druk deze een aantal keren verdeeld over het papier af met Butterscotch.

Take a suitable (background) stamp and stamp this a number of times on the cardstock with Butterscotch.

Doe dit nog eens met een andere stempel en met Lettuce en klaar is je achtergrond!

Do this again, but now with another stamp and with the Lettuce ink and there, your background is ready!

Uit dit papier heb ik 10 atc-achtergrondjes gesneden (dat wil zeggen 6 x 8,5 cm, zodat ik ze nog met een andere kleur kan matten).

From this cardstock I cut 10 atc backgrounds (or to be more accurate: 6 X 8,5 cm, so I can mat them with another colour of cardstock).

Hier zijn nog twee gedetailleerde foto's van twee atc-achtergrondjes die ik hiervan heb gesneden. Best wel gaaf, vind je niet?! Ik ga nog niet laten zien hoe deze atc's uiteindelijk zijn geworden, want ze zijn voor een swap dus dat blijft nog even spannend...

Here's a better picture of two of the atc backgrounds I cut from this piece. Kind a neat, huh?! I'm not going to show you yet how these atc's ended up eventually, because I made them for a swap so that's still going to be a secret...
