Stempeldagjes en papier-stof achtergrondjes maken Stamping days and making fabric paper

Elke maand komen mijn stempelmaatjes Grietje, Mariska, Hilde en ik bij elkaar voor een gezellig stempeldagje, en elke maand wisselen we de gastvrouwrol. In februari waren we bij Mariska en zij had een leuk project voor ons bedacht: een kubus maken. Dit zijn mijn resultaten van toen:

Deze maand was ik gastvrouw en omdat ik een echte techniek-junkie ben, had ik gekozen om achtergrondjes te maken met technieken waar ik over had gelezen in het tijdschrift ClothPaperScissors en in het boek van Traci Bautista "Collage Unleashed".

This month I was the hostess and because I'm a real technique junkie, I decided to make great backgrounds with some techniques I read about in the magazine ClothPaperScissors and in Tracy Bautista's book "Collage Unleashed".

De eerste twee foto's waren mijn voorbeelden voor de eerste techniek, de derde foto heb ik op dit stempeldagje gemaakt. Hiervoor hebben we een opengeknipte plastic tas op tafel gelegd als ondergrond. Hierop een dun laagje gel medium gesmeerd (ik heb glossy gebruikt). Hieroverheen een stuk patroonpapier gelegd (dat is lekker goedkoop en heel mooi dun waardoor het eindresultaat heel mooi transparant wordt) en hieroverheen weer een dun laagje gel medium aangebracht. Je plakt als het ware het patroonpapier op de plastic zak. Daarna hebben we stukjes servet (alleen de bovenste laag) en stukjes kadopapier gescheurd en dit weer opgeplakt met de gel medium, en de gel medium gebruik je ook over het papier heen. Je kunt ook stukjes wit laten. Dan ga je met acrylverf eroverheen, dit kan ook over de plaatjes heen als een soort glaze, hiermee kun je alles een beetje bij elkaar trekken. Gebruik gerust meerdere kleuren, eventueel een beetje verdund met gel medium zodat je een tranparantere kleur krijgt. Als je wilt kun je nog een stukje servet of kadopapier opplakken en als je dan met de gel medium eroverheen gaat dan neem je (bij mij in ieder geval in eerste instantie ongewild) toch een beetje verf mee van eronder, maar dat geeft juist een heel mooi effect heb ik gemerkt. Ben je net zo ongeduldig als wij waren: even de heattool erop (niet te dichtbij vanwege de plastic tas, anders smelt deze!) en als 't redelijk droog is (dit gaat sneller dan je denkt) kun je met verf of evt. watervaste inkt maar wij hebben dus verf gebruikt, hieroverheen en naar hartelust sprayen met Colorwashes, stempelen, doodlen met gelpennen, stickles, liquid pearls, Tulip paint of 3dverf van Pebeo e.d. Als 't helemaal droog is kun je 't papier voorzichtig van de plastic tas aftrekken. Wat je nu hebt wordt ook wel stof-papier genoemd want hier kun je zelfs (voorzichtig) op naaien met de hand of met de naaimachine.

The first two photos were the examples I made for our get together, the third photo is what I made this stamping day. We used a plastic bag cut open to work on. We coated the plastic bag with gel medium (I used glossy) and then we put a piece of pattern paper over this and brushed more gel medium on the pattern paper (I'm not sure what this is called in English, but it is the very thin and cheap paper that is used to trace clothing patterns on, this is nice thin so you get kind of a transparant result). So, when the pattern paper is glued to the plastic bag, you can cut or tear pieces of napkins (the top layer of the napkin only) or wrapping paper and glue these on with gel medium and go ahead and cover these pieces with gel medium too. You don't have to cover the whole area, leave some open spaces too if you want. Now you can load your brush with paint and paint over it, use more colours if you like, you can also glaze the whole thing to bring it all together. For this you can mix the paint with some gel medium this makes the paint more transparant. If you want you can glue some more paper or pieces of napkin, and if you go over this with your brush again you'll notice that you'll transfer some paint over the paper too; that's okay, I really like this effect.When you're as impatient as we were, you can use your heattool to speed up the drying process but be carefull and use some distance because of the plastic bag, otherwise it will melt! When it is fairly dry (this will go faster than you might think) you can overstamp the whole piece using rubberstamps and paint or ink that's waterproof, but we just used paint. You can also use Colorwashes, doodle with gel pens, stickles, liquid pearls, 3d paint such as Tulip or Pebeo etc. Once the whole piece is completely dry, you can carefully peel it off of the plastic bag. You now have a piece of fabric paper which you can also carefully sew on by hand or by sewing machine.

Deze eerste twee foto's waren mijn voorbeelden voor de tweede techniek en de derde foto heb ik deze stempeldag gemaakt. Hiervoor hebben we goedkoop felgeel scrap cardstock genomen, hieroverheen met een oude creditcard acrylverf overheen geschraapt in meerdere kleuren. Hieroverheen gestempeld met acrylverf en ook weer versierd met doodles, gelpennen en tulip of Pebeo 3d verf en stickles of liquid pearls. Ik heb b.v. een Heidi Swapp mask (een grote met bloemen) erop gelegd en hieroverheen met bruine Colorwash gespoten, daarna de mask erafgehaald en je hebt een heel mooi effect. Dit heb ik nog eens benadrukt door met de Pebeo verf de randjes na te tekenen (dit zie je op de derde foto aan de linkerkant van het papier).

For this we used yellow cheap scrap cardstock and we scraped over this with an old creditcard and several colours of paint. Then we overstamped with rubber and foam stamps with paint. Then we played some more with doodles, gel pens, stickles, liquid pearls, 3d paint such as Tulip and Pebeo. For instance, I slapped a Heidi Swapp mask (a big one with flowers) on my paper, sprayed with brown Colorwash over this, removed the mask and when dry I followed the lines with Pebeo 3d paint (you see this on the third photo on the left side of the paper).

Gelukkig Nieuwjaar! Happy New Year!

Ik wens iedereen een geweldig en creatief 2008 toe met deze nieuwjaarskaart die wij aan familie en vrienden hebben gestuurd. Natuurlijk weer een samenwerking van Gosse en mij, de foto is een olieverfschilderij van een winterlandschap van Gosse gecombineerd met stempelwerk van mij :-)))

I wish everybody a wonderful and creative 2008 with this newyear card we sent to our family and friends. Of course another cooperation from Gosse and me, the picture is an oil painting of a winter landscape from Gosse combined with stamp work from me :-))))

Een nieuw jaar, dus ook weer nieuwe goede voornemens natuurlijk! Mijn allereerste voornemen: mijn blog wat geregelder bijhouden want ik heb treurig weinig nieuws op mijn blog kunnen zetten de laatste maanden. Gelukkig krijg ik weer wat meer ruimte binnenkort en die wil ik hier o.a. voor gaan benutten... Ik ben de laatste maanden ook bar weinig toe gekomen aan lekker stempelen en andere technieken toepassen in mijn hobbykamer en ik mis het echt! Ik ben nu mijn hele hobbykamer aan het herorganiseren want er lijkt wel een bom ontploft; ik heb alleen maar nieuwe spullen erin gezet, maar verder nog niets mee gedaan en ook nog geen ruimte gecreeerd. Dus daar ben ik nu eerst maar eens mee bezig, en dat is ook wel fijn want dan weet ik ook weer een beetje wat ik eigenlijk allemaal heb (schandalig veel kan ik jullie vertellen....).

A new year, so again new good resolutions of course! My very first resolution: to keep my blog more updated because I've had not updated it with much news the last couple of months. Fortunately I will be getting some more space and time now which I will use to update my blog more... I haven't been able to stamp and do other techniques much lately and I really miss it! I am now in the middle of reorganising my craft room because it seems like a bomb exploded; I have only brought more stuff in but didn't do anything with it, not even found homes for them yet. So that's what comes first and that's okay, because then I will know what stuff I have in there (an awful lot, I can tell you guys...)

Helemaal stil gezeten heb ik toch ook weer niet, hier laat ik even zien wat ik de laatste maanden heb gemaakt. Eerst een paar gestempelde kaarten:

Weer gewerkt in mijn Art Journal - New entry in my Art Journal

Afgelopen donderdag zaten we heerlijk in de tuin. Gosse, mijn man die kunstschilder is, probeerde mijn oliepastels uit en tekende er uit zijn hoofd een naakte vrouw mee in zijn schetsboekje. Daarna ging ik hem voor de grap natekenen en dit werd het resultaat. Ik moest erom lachen, maar Gosse zei zowaar dat het wel potentie had. "Wat als je dit elke dag 3 uur lang doet?", zei hij. Dus besloot ik 't toch maar in mijn Art Journal te plakken, wie weet waar dit nog toe leidt... :-)

Last thursday we were sitting comfortably in our garden. Gosse, my husband who is an art painter, was playing with my oil pastels and was drawing a naked female in his sketch book. Starting as a joke, I started to draw a picture of him and after 15 minutes this was the result. I laughed about it, but Gosse said that it did have potential. "What if you would do this every day for 3 hours?", he said. So I decided to put this in my Art Journal, who knows where this will lead to... :-)

Inchies gemaakt en in mijn Art Journal gewerkt - Some inchies I made and a page in my Art Journal

Ook ik ben gezwicht voor de inchies! Dit zijn de eerste (papieren) inchies die ik gemaakt heb (er schijnen nl. ook inchies van stof gemaakt te worden). Toch weer erg leuk om te doen, ik heb wat met die kleine formaten... Ik heb eerst een grungy achtergrond gemaakt, toen in stroken en dan in 1 inch (2,54 cm) vierkantjes gesneden. Daarna elke inchie afzonderlijk afgemaakt.

Finally I too gave in to the whole inchie-thing! These are my first (paper) inchies I made (there also seem to be fabric inchies going around). I have to say I'm having lots of fun with these, there's something about these little formats.... I first made a grungy background, then I cut this into strips and then into 1" squares (2,54 cm). I then embellished and finished every inchie separately.

Vanavond heb ik lekker relaxed, gewoon in de stoel in de huiskamer terwijl Gosse televisie keek, eindelijk weer eens in mijn Art Journal gewerkt. De linkerpagina heb ik gemaakt met Van Gogh oliepastels en de rechterpagina met Caran d'Ache Neocolor kleurkrijt. Ik wilde gewoon zo gedachteloos mogelijk wat tekenen, kleuren, doodlen zonder een mooi eindresultaat te verwachten. En kijk eens wat ik dan krijg, als ik geen verwachtingen heb... ik vind 't prachtig! Misschien is dat wel 't geheim, dat ik gewoon onder 't televisiekijken een beetje zit te krassen, in plaats van aan m'n hobbytafel gaan zitten want 't is moeilijk om dan geen verwachtingen te hebben. Dan ga ik er echt voor zitten en neem er de tijd voor. Tsja, dan wil ik er natuurlijk ook wel wat van maken... Hmmm, goeie oefening!

Tonight, while I was sitting comfortable in my chair in the livingroom while Gosse was watching television, I finally worked in my Art Journal again. The left page was done with Van Gogh oil pastels and the right page was done with Caran d'Ache Neocolor water-soluble wax pastels. I just wanted to draw, colour, doodle as mindless as possible without expecting a great end result. And look what I get, when I don't have any expectations.... I think it's wonderful! Maybe that's the whole secret, that I just need to scribble a little bit while watching television, instead of sitting at my craft table in my craft room because then it's hard to not have expectations. That's when I really take the time for it and go sit in my craft room. Well, then off course I want to make something good.... Hmmm, great lesson!

Eindelijk weer actief! - Finally active again!

Na verjaardag, ziekte, sollicitatie en andere drukte heb ik eindelijk weer even tijd om een berichtje op mijn blog te schrijven.

After my birthday, sickness, application for a new job and other busyness I finally have some time to write an entry on my blog.

Afgelopen maandag is de zus van mijn beste vriendin getrouwd en in opdracht van mijn vriendin heb ik een speciale armband voor haar gemaakt. De kleine witte parelmoer kraaltjes met hier en daar een geel en paars mat kraaltje ertussen heb ik eerst geregen op een wit haakgarenbolletje en toen heb ik het bandje gebreid met breinaalden nr. 1, heel dun dus, en na elke steek een kraaltje tussen de steken geschoven. Een erg mooi resultaat geeft dat, moet ik zeggen!

Last Monday, the sister of my best friend got married and my friend asked me to make a special wedding bracelet for her. I first strung the little pearly-white beads and here and there a yellow and lilac matte bead in between on a ball of white crochet yarn and then I knitted the sides with knitting needles no. 1, these are very thin, and after each loop I shoved a bead up between the loops. A very nic result, I think!

Het medaillon is gemaakt van twee houten ovalen woodsies; deze goud geverfd, een romantisch (uitgeprint) plaatje op geplakt en met Diamond Glaze een transparant laagje erop gedaan. Toen een kettelstift met aan beide kanten een oogje en een stukje "ketting" van plastic gouden bloemetjes ertussen geplakt. Op de gouden bloemetjes wit transparante en amber transparante strass-steentjes geplakt. Toen de gebreide bandjes met ijzerdraad bevestigd aan de oogjes en aan de andere kant van de bandjes een klein bandje met sluitinkje bevestigd. Toen de gebreide bandjes nog aan de ovalen achterkant goed bevestigd met ijzerdraad en lijm. Ik vind 'm zelf erg mooi geworden en ik denk dat ik dit nog wel eens in andere kleuren ga maken.

I made the medaillon out of two oval woodshapes; I painted these gold, glued a romantic (printed) image on one and covered this with Diamond Glaze. Then attached a wire and a piece of a "chain" of plastic golden flowers in between the two woodshapes. I attached white and amber transparent strass beads on the golden flowers. I attached the knitted pieces with wire to the wire between the woodshapes. I attached a little knitted piece and a clasp at the other end. Finally I attached the knitted sides with wire and glue to the backside of the medaillon. It turned out very beautifull if I say so myself and I think I'm going to make a similar bracelet in a different colour.

Boekjes van klei - Booklets made of clay

Deze week heb ik als verlate verjaardagskadootjes voor Grietje en Mariska ook nog deze boekjes gemaakt. Ze zijn ongeveer 7,5 x 10,5 cm. De kaft heb ik van klei gemaakt. Hiervoor heb ik een paar verschillende kleurtjes Fimoklei gebruikt en door de pastamachine gehaald om een mooi gelijkmatige kaft te krijgen. Hierin een mooie achtergrondstempel gedrukt, gaatjes met een eyelettool gemaakt en gebakken in de oven. Daarna een kartonnetje voor de achterkaft gesneden en beplakt met bestempeld papier. Toen 5 katernen gesneden en deze volgens de "coptic binding" methode aan elkaar genaaid. Als laatste nog even de randen van de witte pagina's met distress inkt Tattered Rose gekleurd. Ik was er zelf erg tevreden over en ik ga er zeker nog meer maken. Gelukkig vonden Grietje en Mariska hun verjaardagskadootje ook leuk :-)

This week I made these little booklets as late birthday presents for Grietje and Mariska. They are approximately 7,5x10,5 cm. I made the front cover out of clay. I used a few different colours of polymer clay and fed it through my pasta machine to get a nice even cover. Pressed a beautiful backgroundstamp in it, made holes with an eyelet tool en baked the covers in the oven. Then I cut a piece of cardboard for the back cover and covered this with stamped paper. Then I cut 5 signatures and sewed everything together using the "coptic binding" stitch. Last but not least I rubbed the edges of the pages with distress ink Tattered Rose. I have to say I was very pleased with the booklets and I'm definitely am going to make some more. I'm happy to say that Grietje and Mariska also liked their birthday present :-)

Een paar recente kerst-muurhangertjes - Some recent christmas wall art

En hier nog even een paar fotootjes van muurhangertjes die ik voor de kerst gemaakt had. Hier heb ik zo'n houten kinderboekje voor gebruikt; uit elkaar gehaald en de losse plankjes overgeschilderd met witte gesso, daaroverheen goud geverfd, een tekst-achtergrondstempel goud geëmbost, plaatjes geplakt, gestempeld, kraaltjes aan gehangen en voilà!

Here are a few pictures of wall art I made for christmas. (The words on the second one is the first sentence of a Dutch christmas song, translated it says "in the middle of the wintery night heaven opened up".) I used a wooden children's book for this; took the "pages" apart, overpainted it with white gesso, then painted it gold, gold-embossed a text background stamp, attached some clip art pictures, stamped some more, attached beads and that was that!

Vlak voor de kerst had ik een persoonlijke paper doll swap afgesproken met Rini, en ik wilde ze jullie niet onthouden :-)
